Rick Kaps

Rick Kaps
1942-1998

Rick Kaps, retired Sequim High School teacher and boys basketball coach whose 1988 team finished second to Rainier Beach in the Class AA state tournament, died of cancer Feb. 3, 1998. He was 55.

Kaps had a career record of 255-148 and coached Goldendale and later Sequim to several state tournament appearances. He grew up in Aberdeen, and played on the 1960 Chehalis team that won the Class A state tournament.

Kaps retired from coaching in 1989 and from teaching in 1996. He continued to live in Sequim.

His son, Ryan, was a standout on the 1988 state finalist team and later played two years at the University of Washington and two years at Weber State. He now is the head graphic designer for several well-known Florida sports camps.

In addition to Ryan, Kaps is survived by his wife, Kay, daughter, Lisa, of Spokane and parents, Paul and Katherine.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Sequim gymnasium.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society or the Rick Kaps Scholarship Fund at Sequim High School.

Gary McGregor

Gary McGregor
1941-1996

Gary C. McGregor, 54, of Coupeville, died August 13, 1996.

Son of Craig Earl and Luella Goldie (Wilkerson) McGregor, Gary enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after graduating from high school. Following his service he attended Grays Harbor Community College. He then moved to California and worked for Fairchild Industries and Fairchild Instrumentation. In 1969 he moved to Portland where he worked with Ford Industries. In 1973 he moved to Oak Harbor where, with his father, he established Technical Services, Incorporated (TSI), an electronics assembly company.

He was survived by his wife, Caroline “Pepper” McGregor of Coupeville; his parents; two daughters, Denise Carol Bowden of Oak Harbor and Jenifer Lynne Boyer of Seattle; one son, Craig Dee McGregor of Oak Harbor; and one sister, Janet Gethel McGregor of Coupeville.

Norma Cuzick

Norma (Cuzick) Martin
1942-1970

Funeral services and burial for Norma Lee Martin, 28, will be held at Hoquiam, Wash., with the Coleman Mortuary in Charge. Mrs. Martin died Sunday at her residence at 943 Karluk.

She was born in Aberdeen, Wash., on Aug. 15, 1942. She is survived by a son, Trent Avery Martin, 5, of Aberdeen; parents Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cuzick of Hoquiam; brother Clay Cuzick of Hoquiam; and sister Mrs. Nancy Bridges of New York. Local arrangements by Green Funeral Chapel.
