Joe Matich
1941-2008

Joseph L. Matich, 67, a longtime Yakima resident, passed away Friday May 9, 2008, at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

Joe was born January 27, 1941 in Aberdeen to Joseph and Lila (Zemlicka) Matich. He was raised and educated in Aberdeen, where he graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1960. Joe married Ellen E. Anderson in 1965. He attended the Washington State Patrol Academy and following graduation he was stationed in Yakima. He then attended and graduated from Central Washington University. In 1975 Joe and Ellen were blessed with a daughter Heather.

Joe was a sales representative for various products for many years. He was a lifetime member of the BPOE #318, and an avid golfer in his younger years. He looked forward to Wednesdays at the Elks playing cards with his friends.

Joe is survived by his wife of 42 years Ellen and his daughter, Heather Matich, both of Yakima; his mother, Lila Sund of Aberdeen; his brothers-in-law, Jerry (Sandi) Anderson of Alaska and George (Robin) Smith of Aberdeen; and several nieces and nephews, including Rhonda Smith, Jason Smith, Stephanie Spegall, Stephanie Brown and Jennifer Anderson.

Joe was preceded in death by his father Joe Matich; his sister, Kitty Smith; and his step-father, Eric Sund.

Joe was a loving husband, father and son. He was a man of strong character who cherished long lasting personal friendships.

In honor of his request, no funeral services will be held.

Memorials may be made to Memorial Home Care and Hospice Services, or to the favorite charity of the donor, in care of Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.
